Benjamin Schwartz

Welcome to my web page.

I am currently working on a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech. Since I consider myself a speleologist in training (see more about this on our Caving webpage), pursuing an education in karst hydrology seemed to be a fairly natural choice. My current research interests are many, but my dissertation research combines hydrology and geophysics (hydrogeophysics), and soil science to understand vadose hydrology in soil-covered sinkholes and mantled karst. The techniques I am developing will be of use in understanding vadose hydrology in many other areas.

I came to Virginia Tech from Radford University, in large part because of my advisor Dr. Madeline Schreiber. She was interested in working on a karst-related project even though her work deals primarily with arsenic in a variety of settings and from a variety of sources. I am quite happy that I was accepted to Virginia Tech and am always challenged by my work and studies here.
